So i just found out my 3wk old that was born at 8.2lbs hasnt gained his birth wieght back and iv been breastfeeding for the most part...but his doc said he wants me to switch to formula and breastfeed only about 4oz til next weeks see if his wieght is back...if so then i can go back to breastfeeding ..SO- my ? is aimed at mothers who have had this same issue..My lil angel takes comfort in our lil bonding time(breastfeeding) so i worry that not only am i disapointing him but WILL HE GO BACK TO FT BF and is this a big change for a newborn???

If you go a full week with barely breastfeeding I don't think there will be much for him to go back to.... I'm surprised the doc just said to switch instead of supplement after nursing. I would try that first... Nurse both sides and then top up with an ounce or two of formula.

How much weight did he lose after birth and how much, if any, has he gained back?
