Does anyone know of a safe protein supplement to help me gain weight while breastfeeding? I have tried eating more but I just can't make myself eat more. I need something a little easier like a protein shake. Suggestions?

You should try the "Boost Shakes", and drink them in addition to all your meals.

Angela, I use Juice Plus+ complete shakes. They are all plant based and yet have13 grams of protein. They are incredibly nourishing for you . If you send me your e mail address , I will send you more info. on them . I have a BS in nutrition and a MS in wholistic Health and have not found a shake on the market that compares to it. I will also send you samples if you like! roejp@comcast.net

Try to eat lot of different nuts. You can add them to cereals, soups (chopped).
Of course first you have to try every single nut to check out if it doesn't caused allergy to your infant

Use a whole foods based protein like Hemp or Brown rice protein. Sun Warrior do a great healthy and organic one in different flavors (choc and vanilla), add in two scoops plus almond milk, a scoop of raw almond butter, a banana and voila! you have a protein shake with healthy fats that's calorie and nutrition dense. I too lost a lot of weight from breastfeeding and have had to up my protein shakes so that I don't continue to lose more weight. I'm currently 7lbs pre pregnancy weight (114lbs for a 5"6 woman) so I'm very conscious about adding in calories to preserve my breast milk.

Good luck!

Oh and Avocado and lots of it, chuck it in salads, add it to smoothies. It's richly medicinal and beneficial to your health.

I have been dropping weight very quickly since the birth due to breastfeeding, to the point that some people now think I am "too skinny". I've found that eating lots of proteins and grains help, but also making sure that I am drinking whole milk, full fat yogurt, etc. You should make sure that you are eating a healthy diet when breastfeeding, but avoid eating like you are "on a diet" to lose weight.

As Kayla mentioned, drinking shakes in additions to meals can help. I would also suggest something along the lines of a Naked or Odwalla type of shake, they make protein specific ones. Just avoid any "diet shake" that claims to suppress appetite.

Spirulina crunchies! Tasty and has 80% protein. Helps balance metabolism too and helps create more breast milk. try Pure Standard brand.
