I exclusively breastfed my children for at least 5 months. I lost a TON of weight just doing that! I would not go on any severe diet. I just ate healthy foods whenever I was hungry....and believe me, by the end of that period, I was hungry all the time. Don't deprive yourself of calories, you need them. However, eat lots of fruits and veggies and lean meats.

You're probably already aware of this, but a balanced diet and physical activity combined is the best way to lose weight, and neither of these will negatively impact breastfeeding. I would advise against any supplements for losing weight as most of what you ingest will be present in your milk. You have mentioned that you exercise four times a week but you haven't said anything about the type of exercise that you do or about your diet. Make sure your physical fitness involves cardio, resistance, and flexibility training. Many women think cardio is the best thing for losing weight, but resistance and flexibility training both increase lean mass which aids in the metabolism of adipose tissue (fat). As for diet, it is crucial to have proper nutrition to lose weight, with or without exercise. It is nearly impossible to exercise enough to negate a surplus of calories, so make sure you are sticking within your recommended range for breastfeeding, which is usually +500kCals from what your body would normally require.

I know Weight Watchers has a special plan for breastfeeding moms - different points and some other changes. It is a very healthy solution. The online program would work well for a abusy mom and there are community boards where you can swap ideas with other new mom's. The online program is about $20 a month and you can track your food, get ideas, really a great program. Good luck.
