I have delt with Anxiety for many years now and have been on .50 Xanax or 100mg of Zoloft 1x a day. I stopped taking all meds as soon as i found out i was pregnant! I wouldn't even touch ANY pill besides my Vitamins But now i have been having Panic Attacks and I've developed new triggers(Like being in the car.) My doctor put me back on my Zoloft and Gave me .5 Xanax for my panic attacks. I've tryd to find information on Breastfeeding and low dosages of Xanax but everything i find just says to take Zoloft. Stopping breastfeeding is not an option for me, seeing my son hates formula and does not like to drink out of bottles since im a stay at home mom. Also I don't seem to make enough milk to pump and save anymore like i used to. So pumping and dumping will leave me with no milk for my son....

My son is about 8months old, and is eatting just about 3 meals a day with soilds and one of thoses meals has a grain mixed with formula in it. I have been taking the Xanax only on the days i feel the NEED to. Hoping maybe if i dont take it daily, stay at a low dosage it wont harm or effect him. I have seen no difference in him when i take it. Im just very worried that somewhere down the line, something is wrong with him it will be for this reason! I cant find much about how much really goes into the suply ether..

I dont want to take it.. but i need to sometimes for the sake of me and everyone else! If your a mom who is dealing with Anxity you will understand.

If someone can tell me something helpfull pleasee do!!

Low dose, 3 to 4 days out of the week ok? Hellpp

I have had issues with anxiety since being a little girl. I am now in my 40's and have a 4 and a half year old. During my pregnancy I took minimal amounts of Xanax as this was all I really had to keep me getting on with life - sadly. At the time I was seeing a psychiatrist who saw patients who were pregnant and taking anti psychotic meds, anti depressants as well as Xanax etc. He saw the amount of medication I was taking as minimal and was always telling me not to be so hard on myself as so many of his patients took much more and had perfectly healthy babies. I would never advise anyone to start taking a helpful and fast acting medication like xanax., particularly after my own personal expereince with it. To a certain extent, after taking Xanax very casually for many , many years my body was definately addicted to it on some level. Although I constantly berated myself when I took anything I had to remind myself that it as important that I wasn't constantly living on the edge for the sake of my baby. I definately had a big increase in my anxiety levels when my child was born (and he is very healthy). Both my husband and I were in a bit of shock when we suddenly had a baby. There was little emotional support from my husband as he was dealing with his own anxieties at times. I didn't look into seeking help until my child was about 6 months as I'd coped all my life with this issue, it was just an increase and there were also lots of good things about having a new baby too.
I would never judge anyone who takes medication to assist them to get on with life but who hates taking it. I think as long as you remain aware of the possible negatives of long term xanax taking and do the work neccessary to work at being xanax free then you should be much kinder to yourslef as this alone will lessen your anxiety (-: I still srtuggle with it all but am slowly getting a grip on what I really need to do to be (high) anxiety and pain free. Best wishes.

Thanks! I pretty sure im going to stop taking it. I think im searching for something to tell me its ok when it just not really going to happen. I think ill just keep it around if i NEED it to try to stop. My panic attacks can lead to me becoming sick, and sometime migraines. But all in all, I only have about four more months till he is one and i will be able to stop breastfeeding :) and i wont have to worry. If ive gone this long, im sure i can get through this with out it

Personally I would not take Xanax while breastfeeding. I struggle with anxiety as well and have found that taking standard process Vitamin B works really well. Diet also can play a role so make sure to avoid caffeine if you drink beverages with caffeine. It also helps to find some relaxing techniques that work to relax you. A warm shower and focusing on my breathing does the trick for me most times. Sometimes I have to tell myself I'm going to be ok when it gets really bad and that helps too (talk therapy) :) Also try to avoid the things that trigger the anxiety. If they unavoidable that's when the relaxing techniques would be helpful. I’m sorry you have to deal with anxiety, it’s no fun!
