I have a 4 day old boy. I suck at getting him to latch right and now have scabs and cracks on my nipples. Saw a consultant but still struggling. He isn't getting enough milk cause of the horrible latch. I'm about in tears when it comes time to feed because of the pain and out of frustration. I am wondering if we can't get this down of I should go to exclusively pumping. It doesn't hurt and I can have milk on hand for him... Need some advice on what to do.

They tracked his weight and he continued to lose weight and not gain when he should be going up. Plus I saw a lactation consultant and I could tell from the feeding I did there the difference. Also he was only getting one poppy diaper a day. We have had a couple good latches recently but he is starting to want to nurse more and it's just painful while waiting to heal up front the damage my nipples have.

The problem with pumping is, women don't normally produce as much when pumping as they do when feeding directly, so you may not produce enough.

How do you know he isn't getting enough?

Learning to breastfeed is a new skill that you and your baby are learning together. Take your time, maybe try a different position such as the rugby ball/football hold.

Good luck.
