Breastfeeding questions - had my nipples pierced!

Hi there,

I am pregnant with my 2nd child and I tried to breastfeed my first, he wasnt getting any milk until I realized that my flow was disturbed by the previous piercing blockage ( i removed them when i met my husband) I would love to breastfeed my 2nd child but I dont know what to do to get the good milk flow back.

Has anyone had this situation before?

thanks x

Each time is a little bit different, but if you had blockage issues because of scar tissue from the piercings, you'll probably have the same problem this time. Your best bet would be to contact a lactation consultant (La Leche League) and talk to them.
It may be that your ducts are just blocked by scar tissue and there's nothing much you can about it, it could be that even a different hold will help the issue.
A consultant will be able to give you some ideas to try, and then once baby arrives, they can actually come in a physically see what you're doing, make suggestions, move you around, etc to see if anything will help.

I do know that many women with pierced nipples CAN breastfeed, so it's always a possibility. It's really an individual thing though, and you'll need a professional opinion.
