Hello, my son is 17.5 weeks old (4 mos) and from about 13 weeks on he has been on and off disinterested in breastfeeding. It is so frustrating! Before the change he would usually eat between 8 - 12 minutes a side with a burp in between and would rarely put up a fight. Breastfeeding was always much easier than it seems to be these days. Now he will often take one side but then doesn't want to nurse on the other. I can't even burp him in between for fear that he won't be interested in the 2nd breast. If I am lucky I can quickly get my second breast to him and he will take it. We do a lot of side lying because he seems to focus better. We used to do more cradle hold but now he just gets mad at me if I suggest we eat in that position unless he is very sleepy. If I pump and give him a bottle he seems fine with that. I use a newborn nipple still because I don't want him getting too comfortable with a bottle all the time since I breast feed almost exclusively. I understand that he is interested in the world and has more exciting things to look at than my boob but I am not sure I want to start a pattern with bottles yet and I really want to make sure he is gaining enough. He never had a problem before now with weight gain and now I am curious if he is still packing it on as he should. I intend to speak to my ped about this so I do not need any medical suggestions please, just comments if you can relate to this story and if you have been there before, thanks!
