The big meal in the morning is great, but you are having too many snacks between lunch and dinner. Apples are great, but remember that they have about 100 calories and LOTS of sugar in them. You really only need one snack between lunch and dinner unless you are being very active. Also, try to vary the snack--do an apple one day, banana another, handful of nuts the next day, etc. This way, you get a better balance of nutrients, and cut some of the sugar. Natural sugars are okay, they are not bad for you, but remember that unless you burn them off very quickly, they will be turned to fat and stored in your body. They have a very short "energy window".

I have heard of P90X, but I honestly don't know much about it. This is my exercise plan.
I run every morning, alternating a long run (60 minutes) and a short run (30 minutes) each day. I do the running first thing in the morning at about 5am so that I can be back in time to wake my husband and son for work and school.
After I drop my son at school on weekdays, I do a 1 hour cardio class, strength routine, or yoga--I alternate spinning, zumba, kickboxing, crossfit, pilates, weights, and yoga, so my body doesn't get accustomed and I don't get bored.
On weekends, I skip the cardio classes, so I try to plan physical activities for my family--we go rollerblading, ice skating, hiking, kayaking, white water rafting, mountain climbing, trampoline dodgeball, snowshoeing, canoeing, swimming, bicycling, etc. We also participate in charitable 5k's,10k's, and 1/2 marathons. My son is not ready yet, but we are working toward his first full marathon and a triathlon.

20 minutes a day is not enough. You don't have to go to a gym, but you need at least 60 to 90 minutes a day of good cardio, and at least 30 minutes of strength training on the days you only do 60 minutes of cardio. Running counts as cardio, so you can just take longer runs if you don't like classes, but your body will grow accustomed to the workout faster so you will need to vary your run to keep losing weight. You can do that by adding interval training, endurance runs, hills, etc.

Hi Karla.
You can transform your body to any weight shape. You just need to stick to your goal. Set small goals for yourself such as 10lbs then another 10lbs and so on. When you reach your small goal give yourself a treat like a massage or a new haircut…. I was at 220lbs lost 30 in about 4 months by working out 1hr a day and signed up to weight watchers. It really does work.
Remember that you are doing this for you and for your child. You mentioned that you are afraid of change > think positive, change is what you make of it. Your working on a better healthy you!!
Take Care and Best of Luck!

If there is nothing physically wrong with you (like serious kidney issues) that make you obese, you CAN lose the weight you want to lose. At only 5ft and nearly 200 pounds, you are dangerously overweight. It isn't just about the way you look, but your body's ability to function properly. You may feel fine now, but your body will rapidly deteriorate if you keep that much extra weight on.

Do not listen to your mom when she says things like that. Your body is not going to change overnight--it will probably take at least 2 years or more for you to get to your ideal weight. Don't try to rush it because that will mess up your metabolism and make it very easy to gain weight and very difficult to lose it. Take your time, and aim for losing about 2 pounds per week in the beginning. After you lose your first 50 pounds you will begin working on muscle tone, which will mean you will lose weight more slowly, because muscle weighs more than fat, but takes up less space, but your body shape will begin to change. While your weight stays the same, your body will begin to look more lean and slender. Once your muscle tone is where it should be, you will drop the next 15 or 20 pounds very quickly. The last 10 to 15 will be the most difficult. I don't know your bone structure, so I can't tell you what your ideal weight should be, but I think anywhere between 100 and 125 would be healthy for someone your height.

What kind of diet do you keep right now? You can't use temporary diets, you need to find a diet that you can stick with for the rest of your life. That means it needs to be balanced -- meats, grains, veggies, fruits, dairy, are ALL important. It also can't be so strict that you feel deprived--you have to treat yourself on occasion, but be careful about it. Each day, make sure most of your diet is fruit or veggies, one serving each of dairy and meat. WHOLE grains are okay, stay away from white bread, cakes, cookies, and other bread based sweets. If you crave something sweet, grab a small dark chocolate piece.

What kind of exercise plan do you keep? It is hard to make recommendations on exercise if we don't know what you are doing, but if you let me know, I can help you make it more efficient so you can get better results with less exercise.
