Can anyone help with my 4 month old's sleep issues?

My four month old won't nap for longer than 30 minutes at a time. I've tried waiting until shes really tired to put her down, but that just makes it harder. If she wakes up I've tried waiting for her to put herself to sleep, but she ends up laying in her crib chatting with herself until I pick her up. She won't cry either she just lays there.

Another problem I've been having is that she can't put herself to sleep. My husband or I have to dance her to sleep for naps and at nigh. She will usually sleep through the night just fine, getting up once for a feeding around 5am.

Does anyone out there have any tips for me? The dancing is great for weight loss, but it would be nice to be able to set her down and have her go to sleep on her own.

Some babies just take short naps. If you want her to have more quite time and she's not crying then why not just let her rest for a while longer even if she's not sleeping. Personally I'm all for allowing a child to sleep when they want and for however long they want as far as naps go. As for putting herself to sleep you could try dancing her as you've been doing until she is almost asleep and then lay her in her crib and lessen the time you dance with her each night and wean her from it slowly. Have you tried just laying her down in her crib? We had to rock or bounce our son on a yoga ball until about 6 months of age. Once he hit 6 months he was done with it so it may just take some time since she's still so young. Good luck!
