Can I adopt a 15 year old if I am 22?

I am 22 and at 19 I got pregnant with my first child Justin. I put him up for adoption because I was not ready at the time to have a baby, his adopted mom had a daughter who was 15. Unfortunately the adopted mother passed away, my partner adopted Justin and I was wondering if I could adopt his sister or is the age between us too close?

Is there no where else for her to go? You might want to push for just being a legal guardian. Where is she now?

Right now she is with her grandparents but they are in the late 80s already. She would end up having to go to an orphanage.

I believe that is better for you and for him to have a good relation with her sister. Probably her father or a family is taking care of her.

I would be surprised if you could. Many adoption require a greater age gap than that. You may be allowed based on your unique situation. I would suggest contacting the authorities in your province or state, they could probably give you a better answer.

I would start with trying to become her legal guardian and go from there. Was anyone appointed in her mother's directives?
