My boyfriend of 3 years broke up and I moved out of his mother's house because she was very controlling over my pregnancy and how i choose to name the baby, at 6 months pregnant. Him and his mother have been threatening to take me to court over my unborn child's last name. Can he take me to court to make me give the child his last name over mine? We're not married and have never been engaged and he was never really involved with my pregnancy (I.e. going to appointments, shopping for items, rubbing my feet.)

Don't worry. There is in no way he can FORCE that. He's just being a jerk trying to scare you. My son is 16 and his father and fathers mom tried that bs. Let him take you to court. He will have to fork out money for an attorney and such. Plus he will have to prove why its mandatory or necessary the baby have his last name. There is no reason at all therefore he will not win. If you are still worried you can give him both last names. Like my niece. Her mom put "Sanchez-vigil" as her last name. My brother didnt force that at all. She did that in case he broke up with her so that she could drop vigil on her name later. They broke up but my niece (age 20) still uses vigil. Don't worry. Good luck!
