Thanks for all the comments. I tried to put vicks vapor rub on his feet and put his socks on as what is being suggested by other moms but it certainly didn't work for my baby. I don't want to give my baby any antibiotics or drops if possible. Do u know any alternatives to antibiotics? I really feel sad to hear my baby coughing. It bothers me more than it bothers him. I am not a doctor so I can't say forsure - but I have asked the same question to my doctor and pharmacist regarding other medicines and have gotten a firm no! The reason is because thier kidneys won't be able to process it properly and it can have long term affects on them.

The only time I have gotten an okay was with sunscreen meant for 6month olds when my child was 4 months and Vics Vapour Rub when I didn't gave the infant one available. I assume because they are topical the risk isn't as great.

You need to talk to your doc. Even lowering the dose it can still be dangerous especially for a 1 month old. Their digestive system is still developing and it can be VERY harmful for them. As the other poster pointed out sunscreen and vick's vapor rub is not even allowed on a 1 month old and that is not ingested.

Aww! No worries hon - we have all had questions and probably made the wrong decisions before - welcome to motherhood! We also all know what it's like to have a sick baby and how scared and helpless you feel.
Try using a cool water humidifier. If you can't afford one right away (they can be about $40 - $60) then run the shower and make the bathroom steammy and take your baby in. The moisture will help soothe the airways and help move any phlem around. Also, if you fry up an onion, wrap it in a towel an place it on your babies chest, it helps clear up the cough. I usually let my children sleep the whole night like that - but I would be worried about the extra heat and weight on such a small infant. I would just hold it on his chest while in your arms until it cools.
Good luck!

Just an update. My baby is getting better now after his pediatrician prescribed 3 oral drop meds. he's having a bronchitis. He slept tight last night and i just didn't bother to wake him up to give him his med coz he never went to sleep the other night.. He's a lil bit bubbly now and responding to me in some ways like giving me cutesy sounds..
Thanks for all ur support.. I'm glad that i joined in this circle :)

Thanks Queen. I'll try that one.. He actually didn't go to sleep lastnight coughing.. I could hear some cracky noise everytime he coughs and breathe. So i guess its a phlegm that is clogging his airways..

It's all good, honey. The first is always the hardest. Whenever you have questions (especially about meds) don't hesitate to call the nurse line that they gave you the number for, or your pediatrician. Its always better to be safe than sorry, especially with our little ones.

I'm only 20 year old new mom and doesn't really have experience about taking care of an infant. I worry a lot if my baby doesn't feel comfortable. But thanks for all advice.

You should take your 1 month old to the doctor to see what they recommend. You should NEVER self medicate and adjust dosages without a physician's recommendation and instructions.
