Can I give my baby cereal?

My baby is almost 2 months old and the formula just does not seem sufficient enough. He drinks 6oz every few hours then at night every 4 or 5 hours, but he acts like its not enough. My mother in-law told me I could spoon feed him a very thin cereal at 2 months but I'm not sure how he will take it. Any suggestions?

No. He is too young for ANY solid foods - his tummy isn't ready. They are generally not ready until they are 6 months (that is the World Health Organisation and AAP recommendation). If he is hungry, feed him more milk. He needs the nutrients in the formula, not the nutrient devoid rice cereal. It is normal for him to be feeding every few hours, and seriously every 4 or 5 hours at night is really good - many babies this age are still waking a little more frequently. Why would you want to feed him cereal? It sounds like he is doing perfectly fine as he is.
