I have a 14 yr old stepdaughter who lives with her mother in a different state. Her mother has recently moved their family into the basement of my stepdaughters 17 yr old boyfriend. I have talked with her mom about putting her on birth control and her response to that is "she's a good kid and I trust her. She's not having sex so she doesn't need it. Her boyfriend is a good kid...they wouldn't do that" Do I have the right to still get her on birth control if her father is giving me permission? I have helped raise this child since she was 1 and I don't want her to end up pregnant because of her mother's ignorance to the subject. I want to at least give her a chance to not choose the hard road in life

If her dad agrees with it, have HIM put her on birth control. Meaning, both of you can sit down and talk with her and he can bring her to the doctor if she wants to be on birth control. It should be the child who makes the decision to be on it or not, but certainly can be brought up to her by the parents.

Wow, that is a tough one. Yes, I agree that she needs to be on some form of birth control. My best friend's "good girl" who is 15 just had a baby and will have to struggle cause the father left her 2 days after the baby was born. Have your husband talk to his ex and explain that she needs to go on birth control. It is not a trust issue, it is a reality check. Kids, whether good or bad, get caught up in the moment and lose all control over their actions.
