Sex results in a combination of things IF you are ready to go into labour (if your body isn't ready, it isn't ready, period).

Firstly, an orgasm causes uterine contractions, which can trigger contractions. Secondly, sperm actually softens the cervix. Anyway, it worked for me.

Does it mean labour will be delayed if you DON'T have sex? No. Sex won't work if your not ready anyway. Chances are if sex works, you were probably going to go into labour in the next week anyway.

No, the labor cannot be delayed simply since dad is not around, or that you cannot have sex. Sex can certainly kick start labor, but is NOT necessary. Your body will go into labor when you and baby are ready, and not a moment sooner. If say you have sex, then go right into labor, that means your body was ready and just needed a little push. It can certainly help, but is not the sole reason for a women to go into labor.
