Help! My 4 yrs old has become terrified of everything recently. She has been potty trained since 2! Now all of sudden she is scared of falling in the toilet! I have done everything I can think of. Holding her while she goes, giving her rewards, buying a potty seat for the toilet, EVERYTHING! She is now holding her pee until I have to put her on there because I'm scared she is gonna get a bladder infection or something. Out of ideas! Any advice or should I take her to the dr.?

My daughter went through a phase when she was 3 where she was very clingy and fearful of everything. I tried to give her lots of hugs and reassurance. I talked to her about being brave and had her practice being brave, like going up to the front to listen to the story at library story time. Giving her extra reassurance and practicing being brave helped. After several months, she was a brave girl and now she is in school and doing great. Don't worry about the bladder infection, kids can hold it for a very long time and be fine. Just give lots of reassurance and she will make it through. Good luck!

i guess perhaps for some kids it might be... but i have worked in day care, i have had many a 2yo sticking things into toilets, but in the 2.5yr class it slowed a considerable amount... in the 3yo and 4yo class it was unheard of

i would think that at 4yo she would know better than to stick things into the toilet, now at 2yo i would not advise this, even at 3 i would think it would be a LITTLE questionable, but at 4, she should know better.

Not judging anyone but I would'nt stick a gloved hand in the toilet than she might start putting stuff in toilet. The rest of Hollys advise I agree with get some activities to do while shes going. Let her know that she does'nt want 2 have a accident in her big girl underwear cause than you have to get rid of them & also All the big kids use the potty & let her see u going too. Seriously my daughter would'nt go in public restrooms she would wiggle and hold it for hours it was crazy nothing worked than one day I think that she realized that it was hurting her stomache to hold it so long & she started using public restrooms.

tell her to let you know every time she has to go, go in there with her... read a book with her on the toilet. she is probably worried that she is going to be flushed down the toilet... beleive it or not, many children get scared about that... perhaps you can read a book about how the potty works, and explain to her that that hole is tooo little for a big girl like her to fit in... she will be fine... put on some gloves stick your hand in the water and flush it... show her that your little hand wont even get flushed... THIS might help her.
