Well, first off, congratulations on breastfeeding this long!! That is a huge commitment of time and energy and a great achievement!! Going cold turkey is probably the hardest method on you. I think you have to pump to relieve the engorgement - otherwise you could get a clogged duct or an infection. The trick is to pump just enough to relieve the discomfort. If you empty your breasts completely, it will just signal your body to make more milk, which you don't want. When you get uncomfortably full, pump just enough to be comfortable. Even if you have to dump the milk, that's probably the best method for your body. You could also use your expressed milk to mix with your son's whole milk if you didn't want to just throw it away. I've heard that putting cabbage leaves on your breasts also helps with engorgement but I've never tried it. With pumping it will probably take a week or two for your body to get the message but at least you will not be in pain. Here's a link to Kelly Mom regarding mom's physical comfort during weaning. There might be some extra info for you here. http://kellymom.com/ages/weaning/wean-ho... Good luck!!!

Thank yoy so much for the suggestions I've pumped just a lil to release some of the engorgement now I'm tryin the cabbage leaves which seems to be helping a lil..instead of puttin the cabbage in the fridge I rinsed the cabbage leaves damped it with a paper towel left the paper towel on the leaves and stuck it in the freezer till it was kinda frozen (5mins) then applied them on my breast o what a feeling no more pain..still engorged but I'm understanding that will take sum time ...but atleast I feel it workin :)
