Hi everyone,

I'm a first time mom and new to this site. I am BF my LO who is 7 wks old. I've been having sharp, tingling sensations in my breasts that just started within the last 48 hrs. I have NEVER had let down sensation even though I have an abundant milk supply. At first I thought that the sensation with me finally feeling a letdown, except that it is was happening when I wasn't feeding my LO. Now it is getting more common and I feel it like all the time (like every hour or so...and sometimes a few mins apart!). I'm so scared that it maybe thrust although LO is showing no symptoms and in fact was on my breasts for a lot longer than usual today.

Any help and advice would be appreciated.

Letdown can happen at any time, not just when feeding. Like when you hear your baby cry, or smelling the baby lotion, or even a baby thought. It can happen in a warm shower, or a damp warm washcloth laying on the breast to release the milk. Lots of unexpected times. Your body is adjusting to making milk and things should even out soon. You will feel all kinds of twinges and pings as you go through these changes.. Especially after the baby has gone through a growth spurt to increase your milk. If the feelings do not stop, and they worry you, bring them up with your OB, most often a quick look at the nipple will tell alot of things.

For thrush the interior of the babies mouth will also have a thick white coating, if this isn't there, I wouldn't worry about thrush.

I am really worried, because I feel the tingling sensation ALOT just not when BF. I also started taking probiotics and gave LO probiotics too and worried that this may have caused thrust but apparently that isn't the case after doing some research.

Katherine did your letdown start after the first month and happen when you weren't BF?

Thrush would crack your nipples and have white discharge. So it's unlikely that's what it is. I think I had the same sensations with mine also.
