Castor oil doesn't put you in to labor... it makes you sick and puts your baby at risk. Please don't do it again.

Sarah H is so right! I worked for years as a L&D nurse and the moms who came in after taking castor oil were usually miserable for most of the labor as they had been throwing up or having diarrhea. It also makes for a messy delivery as you may continue to have diarrhea while you push. It also really doesn't work. You may get dozens of stories about how moms took castor oil and delivered the next day. Well who is to say they would not have delivered anyway? If you get yourself dehydrated, yes you can go into labor as your electrolytes get out of whack and cause muscle contractions. Why the rush? Like Sarah H pointed out, if you need to be induced you doctor can safely guide you through that. Try to get some fluids and food down and get yourself feeling better. Good Luck!

Caster oil is the worst thing to do. It is a laxative. It does just what you described. It causes the runs and stomach pains that go along with that. In REALLY bad causes it dehydrates you and can cause stress on the baby which then causes labor.....not good labor. Because the baby is in stress there is great risk to the baby's health as well as yours. If you are needing to be induced your doctor will do this with a safe method and under his supervision. If you are not needing to be induced don't take measures to do so putting both your baby and you at risk. You have made it this far. Enjoy the last few weeks. After baby comes your life will never be the same.
