My little girl is a year and 2 weeks and hasn't seen her father for over 4 months now and I need to change her name as she has he's. He hasn't had no contact at all not even over her birthday, but I know he would never agree to the name change. What can I do to change it? Easiest way.. I'm in england essex. Thanks

Yes, Child Support=what he has to give to help maintain a descent life for the child. You can file for it. He is her father and he needs to support her. He can also ask for visitation and get it unless you can prove without doubt with documentation such as arrest records, convictions of crimes like driving while intoxicated and so on. He has every right to that child like you do even if he shows little interest now. This is not about YOU anymore. This is about what your daughter needs and its support first and foremost so the money is there to provide for her needs like food, clothes, home, untilities, and such. And visitation allows her to develop a relationship with her father (its on him to make it happen though). You should also get custody set as well and make sure you get it how you want it. He can ask for joint though.

I am not going to go on about laws here as I do not live in England. But I do know that changing the name of a child particularly is going to be hard to do. You should have put your name down from the start as her last name instead of waiting until now. This does not mean, however; that her father will not changed his mind and have an interest in her later. What does it matter really what her last name is? Why have you not spent the time worrying about getting her child support and such set up? That is more important that changing a name.
