Child gets angry over wearing certain clothes

I had severe problems and still do a bit with the way things fit and feel. I have a 9 year old son who has the same problem. He has to have bigger shoes that are loose but wants them tied tight, he has to be able to raise his toe. He hates the way socks feel, doesn't like blue jeans etc. It is a constant battle for me to get him dressed for school in the mornings. He will completely meltdown, crying, yelling etc. He gets so angry. I don't know what to do to help him! It really makes me sad because I feel helpless in the fact that it holds him back.

Has this presented an issue at school? Sounds like he could benefit from an evaluation for services like OT. This happens a lot in children diagnosed with autism... You didn't mention a diagnosis so I'm assuming he is not. Maybe googling a search on what moms of children with autism do about this sensitivity.

Some kids have difficulty with the sensory aspect of clothing...certain fabrics may irritate them, or if they feel too tight or have tags or threads that poke them. Some kids are more sensitive to this than others. An Occupational Therapist could be of help if you discover this is his issue.
