My child has been involved with an adult met on an internet fantasy gaming site. They have been communicating and my child is "in love" with this individual. My child is 16 and the online romancer is over 22.
We've taken away the phone and computer but a need to know if it's best to just deal with my child and forget about the internet stranger or consider prosecution for this person?

I personally would get the police involved, or at least talk with the police and see if anything can be done.

In the meantime, keeping all electronics away is a good start. When you start letting your 16 year old have electronics back, rules need to be put into place. Along with parental supervision. Anything that can be viewed on line (ie laptop) should be accessed only in a community family room. No privacy.

I don't think the police need to get involved unless you have proof that he knows your daughter's age and is actively trying to hook up with her. The problem with online chatting is that younger people are sometimes not developed enough to recognize the differences between a friendship and a romantic relationship. You should definitely keep tabs on her use of electronics and who she's communicating with to make sure she's acting appropriately.
