Just wondering if anyone has ever had a child that would break out in hives when they were fighting off a cold??? My 2 1/2 has broke out in hives for the 4th time and this lasts about 2+ weeks! No change in diet or laundry etc... our Dr. says that this can be a childs way of fighting off a cold etc... but I just feel so bad for her she gets covered from head to toe. Guess I was just wondering if anyone else has gone through this and if they outgrow it! The strange thing is she is an identical twin and her sister dose not go through this!

My 5-month-old grandson broke out in hives all over his body. He did have a fever and now has a runny nose, but as far as food, soap & etc. nothing has changed in the house. Does anyone know what would be safe to give him for the hives? Or does anyone else have a similare experience with a similar situation?

I hope you don't have to uses benadryl for too long. Not good for the body. I hope they find what's bothering his little body. God Bless

Thanks, We do the benadryl now and that helps as long as we keep giving it too her. I just hope she out grows it, people think of hives and they think a few here or there ( at least that's what I thought of) she gets hundreds of them & the Dr. says it bothers me more than her but I just feel so sorry for her! Hate to see your kids suffer and the fact that they last for weeks, drives me crazy! Plus I worry that someone will see her full of them and think something is wrong with her, contagious or I am a bad mother and don't take care of my kids! She calls them her pokadots! LOL

My daughter has multiple food allergies and always breaks out in hives. But besides that point, she has also gotten hives, a little different looking than that of food allergies, but yes it was viral, and it's happened a few times. It's just the virus passing through, just like the doctor told you.

I just went through it. I used a tiny bit of different laundry soap and broke out. When my boys were young they too broke out. I used oatmeal bath. It stoped the itching. Calamine lotions helps too. Mine got so bad I had to go to the Dr's and get steriods. I wouldn't sugest you do the last one. Not good for children.

My daughter just went through this about 3 weeks ago...she just started breaking out in these giant hives all over her body. It was horrible. I took her to the pediatrician and he said it was some kind of virus going through her and could last up to a month. THey eventually went away but she was cranky while she had them. Hang in there...did he tell you to try benadryl?

When my son was a baby he had MANY food allergies which gave him hives and eczema. Cortizone creams helped bu I was afraid to use too much. I tried every cream there is. Finally Olive oil seemed to help. It's absorbed by the skin and keeps him moisturized. Moisture is the key and getting him tested to see what he's allergic to. Don't baith him every day but moisturize every day. Check out herbs.com
