My son lies about being ill (and other things), has got to the stage when we are never sure if he is ill or not! Any suggestions.

I have spent a lot of time with him over the weekend, and rather than the punishments we would normally dish out we made him make up the time he missed at school by doing work at home, which he ended up quite enjoying. We spent time some time discussing what could happen if we did not believe him next time he was ill and how that would effect him, like going to school and being sick in front of all his friend which he would fine rather embarrassing. So we shall she how it goes.

No symptoms, no getting to stay home. Simple enough solution there.

Every kid tries this at least once...

So he is lying about being sick......and you are letting him stay home? Can you see something wrong with this picture?

More recently it has been because his sister is off as she now goes to another school, other times it's just more fun to be at home, so we have said that he has to stay in bed in his room. Some times it would appear to be because he wants attention. So it's not for the same reasons.

Is he possibly lying to avoid school?

Often the solution to the problem is looking into WHY he is behaving in this way. Once you can figure out why, you can start to find a solution.
