I have a 14 year old son that doesn't feel like he needs to do chores around the house. The only thing I ask of him to do is his laundry and keep his room clean! Am I being unreasonable?

My 14yo and 11yo have to do their own laundry and keep their rooms clean. They also have to keep the play room tidy and vacuum when needed.
All kids need chores of some kind. If he doesn't do his laundry then he can wear smelly dirty clothes. That's his choice. Don't go and wash his clothes for him!!!

Ok, well, you need to level with him and explain that you need his help. He doesn't need that cell phone if he can't help around the house. He can not only do his laundry and room, but also help with dishes, take out garbage, and help with yardwork.
My kids have been doing these things all along.
Also explain that in life, one has responsibilities, and one of those is to his personal space, and the space that he shares with others.

Ha he had age appropriate chores since he was old enough? Mine have had chores since age 3. Since they have always had chores, when it came time for them to take on different ones, it wasn't a problem.
If you just recently started expecting him to help out around the house, then, yes, he can't understand why, and you need to give him a reason: It is up to everyone to help around the house.
