Cipro vs Birth Control

[deleted account] ( 3 moms have responded )

I know you can get preg anytime no matter what method you use but I have a dilemma. I'm on the pill and had to take cipro my Dr assured me that antibiotics interfering with pill was an old wives tales. Well I bled lightly for a day and a half a week early and that's it for this cycle. I am looking to see if any one has had something similar happen and what was the outcome. I am aprehensive to take a test for emotional reasons as my husband and I aren't ready for another child and I don't want to stress him out

Maybe your particular antibiotic was not a problem, but I do know that there are some that have not been eliminated as causing the pill to be ineffective. She should have at least been aware of that.

Your doctor told you antibiotics interfering with the pill was an old wives tale? Really? Not ALL antibiotics interfere with the pill, but actually, some do. Your doctor should have explained this to you. New information did come out last year that women did not need to take additional precautions with many antibiotics, but unless you know exactly what antibiotic you are taking and whether it is one of those on the list that DOES interfere with the pill, then you should still take precautions. So always check the type of antibiotic and whether it is one that does affect the pill. Maybe the one you are on doesn't. But he shouldn't have told you it is an old wives tale.
