Circumcision and Anesthesia (Age 4)

My urologist wants to do circumciscion for my 4 year old boy (there is a medical reason for why he is suggesting it). However, i am so worried to go this route - as i am worried the whole surgery and the anesthesia that goes with it will have impact on his development later in life. He has already had anesthesia twice (one for ear tubes and the other for getting a DMSA Scan done). Can anyone plese provide some words of wisdom. Thanks so much in advance.

Anytime anyone goes under anesthesia can be scary. But there has not been any proven link to anesthesia and brain development. Most of the studies were done on children younger than 4, and while some scored a few points lower on IQ tests, they could not say conclusively that it was a result of the anesthesia, and they were all still in the "normal" range. If there is a reason to have the surgery, then the benefits probably far outweigh the risks.
