Baby carrier, moby wrap, sling, etc. Babies like to be close to mom. Baby wearing will help you get the work done you need to do. Babies this age also tend to be soothed by the sound of a vacuum cleaner, so he would probably really enjoy being close to you (in carrier) while you are vacuuming.

8 weeks is not such a long time. Your baby really needs you and benefits from being close to you. In the coming months, he should be sleeping longer and it will be easier for both of you to get into a routine.

Since he is still tiny, try using a baby carrier while you get some work done. Focus on doing small tasks that will take only 5-10 minutes. When friends and family come, let them entertain him while you do the dishes!
