Co-sleeping advice

My wonderful husband has started sleeping part time with our 8 month old baby boy since he was a frequent waker and we can't let him cry it out or he loses his voice. His mommy just can't sleep with him as she is a light sleeper. (wish this wasn't the case! :))

So, I have a question for you co-sleepers, when he wakes too early and decides he wants to play with dad instead or even both of us, if he ends up in our bed, how do you get your baby to stop and go back to sleep? We tried the other morning when he woke at 4:30 AM and we tried to keep laying him down and finally he fell asleep for like 10 minutes and was ready to get up and play again, so we just got him up at 6 AM at that point.

Any advice? Thank you!

My boy goes to bed between 9 and 10. That lets him play enough and have enough time between nap time and bed time for him to get good and worn out. Good luck!

What time did you switch the bedtime to? I have always put him down early as they say it helps him sleep better..?

I say maybe it is time to start switching him to his own crib in his own room.

Make him lay still. Tell him that it is still the time to be sleeping, lay him down next to you and put your arm around him. He will fight it at first, and you will feel bad, but we as parents have to do unpleasant things sometimes so that our children learn to listen, mind, and respect us as well as other adults.

We left toys out on the bed and that would give us another 15-20 minutes but sometimes it just means we have to get up. Also we switched bedtime to later so that she'd sleep in later. Now at 3 she has books and things to keep her occupied before we wake.

Thanks Julianne, but that won't work with a little one who will crawl right off the bed. :)
