When can you start using coconut oil on an African American baby's hair?

Congratulations Rashandra on your new momness! The only other thing I can think of is if you start braiding or having your child's hair braided don't let someone do it too tight! Some AA braiders think it needs to be tight but I've seen lots of damaged hair because of it, the one time I let my friend do my daughters hair (I always do it myself) she did it super tight that my girl had to have Tylenol to sleep, my daughter did not want her to do it again. My friends daughter's hair is breaking and doesn't look healthy because it's always pulled into tight tight braids. I usually let my daughter have a two week break in between braiding just to let it have a break and really nourish it with oil during that time. Her hair is beautiful and strong. I wish you the best with your little one!

Thank you so much!! I've had it in my kitchen the whole time and didn't know that I could be using it for that purpose. Any more tips? I'm a first time mom😊

I use any brand that is extra virgin. I strongly believe that what we put on our skin we put into our body. I' think its great you are using these natural products, they even work much better than the expensive lotionss with (mostly) chemicals added. I use olive oil on my twins right after a bath and they both have beautiful skin and hair.

You can use it any time. I also use it on my AA children's skin, although I prefer olive oil for both their skin and hair.
