My 17 month old son is not talking much. He says daddy, nana, nut, dugadugaduga and a few other words every now and then. If i ask him to bring me something most of the time he doesnt and when i call his name its like he ignores me. I have talked to early intervention and they said score wise he scored well on everything but they are referring him for speech anyway. Should i be concerned?

Ive wondered about this too. My 17 mth old step-twins are at totally different levels with speech. One of them can say momma, mom, daddy, dad, nana, bubba, yay, tada! , and thank you(sounds more like tay chu) ...and the other one only says momma and dada. I think it has alot to do with their personalities. The one who talks more has always been more independent and content. While the other has always been clingy and has needing constant attention. Its not abnormal at this age though so I wouldnt worry.

Sarah thank you so much for your reply. Sometimes these professionals make you feel like something is wrong with your child if they are not doing evrything at scheduled milestones. Your reply is very encouraging :)

At 17 months I would not be. Most 17 month olds don't say much words and don't follow directions.....they are still pretty little to expect that. From 17 months to 2 1/2 years there is a BIG difference of vocabulary and following directions. If by then there has been no growth then I would be concerned.
