I need help and clarification. I'm not sure if my 3 month old is pre-teething or if it's something else. The last thing I want to do is give him teething medicine he doesn't need. The signs he shows Pain or discomfort in the mouth, Irritable behavior, Pulling ears when eating(he's only breast feed), Wakefulness at night (he's been sleeping all night since he was 8 weeks but not anymore), Chewing and biting, Coughing due to excessive saliva, and Loss of appetite. It all started two nights ago when he kept waking up every hour with an uncontrollable urge to chew on his blanket and lovey. If it feel out of his mouth he would cry. He acts all day as if he can't satisfy his urge to chew. I don't know if he's teething or trying to soothe himself. He hates bottles and pacifiers so I'm not sure. He also dislikes sucking on his fingers. I don't see anything poking out of his gums. He is fussiest and crystal most at night. Which is a new behavior. If it's not teething what can it be?

Only other thing it could be is maybe an ear infection.

But what you describe does sound like teething. You could try teething mittens. The ones I use have extra fabric so lo is biting that and not actually their fingers. I got mine from teethinghelp.ca

Thank you Rebecca. I bought some today. I just wish he would open his fist so he can confort himself with his fingers or thumb.
