Is he breastfed or formula fed? Breasfed babies can go almost a week without pooping and it be completely normal. If he's not straining alot or seems like he's in pain when passing stool he's fine. His body is most likely just becoming more efficient at absorbing nutrients and he doesn't have as much waste as before.

It's normal. I wouldn't worry about it for now. But it wouldn't hurt to give him baby juices either.
If it gets really bad and he seems like he has trouble pooping (like crying or screaming or face is turning colors) try giving him very little (clear)karo syrup in his bottles. If that doesn't work try a little gerber apple prune juice w/ water.

Remember that constipation isn't about the number of poos he has, but the consistency. If it's dry, hard and difficult for him to pass, then he's constipated. If it's not and he's just not going as much, then he's totally normal.

I was amazed when my pediatrician told me to use a teaspoon of pear juice for every 4 oz of thier milk at 2 to 3 months old when they are constipated. Worked like a charm.. And I continued to do it like twice a week to keep him regular.

If he gets uncomfortable I would recommend Natren Life Start as long as your son doesn't have a milk allergy. It's probiotics and they're safe from newborn and up. I started giving these to my son and after 4 days he took a huge poop and then went once a day for a few months and now he goes twicea day. I still give him the Natren and I swear by it. If your dr. recommends miralax, please research it thoroughly first. Google miralax and side effects for infants. It works for some but I don't think it's good for LOs.

Ya, totally normal, unless he is straining and its really hard and cant get it out--which is a problem I ended up having with my son because of the high Iron in the formula...if thats the case, then see your doctor...otherwise, when he's gotta go, he will go.

This is totally normal. If you're really concerned talk to your doctor but, babies don't have to poop everyday.
I would also like to state, that if anyone comes into this thread and starts suggesting home remedies, please do not listen. There is nothing that you should be giving or inserting up your childs rectum unless you've had a doctor tell you to do something. I only say this because you will find with threads like these people start suggesting all kinds of crazy things. It's scary.

right around 6-8 weeks of age, babies start having less stools. If the poo isn't hard marble-like, then he is fine. If it looks like he is trying really hard to go, it is because when babies get the urge to go, they tighten their rectum instead of relaxing it. It isn't hurting them in any way and doesn't mean he is constipated. Eventually he will learn how to relax it when the urge comes.
