Hello!
I'm a single mother and I work long hours at the hospital. With work hours and commute times I hardly get to see my daughter. My mom has been taking care of her at those times. But things have gotten weird to the point where my mom thinks and acts as if she's the mother of my child. She wants to dress matchy matchy with her when going out or for special occasions. And she doesn't take my rules seriously. I've heard her encourage my daughter to call me by my name and whenever I discipline my daughter she would laugh and make it seem like it's nothing to be taken seriously. My mom seems very competitive with me over things. I am so hurt because she never encourages my daughter to come around me. She acts as if this is her child And she won't listen to things I tell her to do. She tells me to change an outfit to her liking or tells me every single thing to do with her.

I am so lonely and stressed out. I feel like my daughter loves her grandmother more than me. I don't know what to do.

I am so sorry you are feeling this way. Do you have any other options for work and day care? If at all possible if you could be around your daughter more it would help.

What is happening with your daughter relating to your Mother is probably natural since that is the one person she is around more than anyone else. It's important to have "one on one time" with your daughter away from whoever is her "baby sitter". So if at all possible, try to giver her the special quality time that she needs so she understands who is her Mommy.

At the same time, consider having a sit down talk with your Mom, explaining your rules and your appreciation you have for her taking care of your little girl.

I wish you the best possible outcome. I will be praying for you!

Then it is time to change who takes care of your daughter during work. What kind of hours do you work, day or night? How many a day? You might consider child care instead.
