My 16 year old son sleeps 15 hrs a day. He has central and obstructive sleep apnea. He can no longer do his schoolwork even when awake. Last week we were told his MRI shows mild associated volume loss and thinning of the cortex. It has increased and appears more conspicuous. Also there was a subtle area of decreased fdg activity corresponding to this region on prior brain pet from 2007. The left hippocampus is slightly smaller in size than the right, similar to prior exam. there is a hyperintense t2/flair signal within the left superior frontal gyrus involving the cortex and sub cortical white matter. My son is having an extended EEG and so far it looks normal. What should I do if the EEG comes out normal and what does his MRI mean?
