Irish, please take the baby to the pediatrician. If you have and no satisfaction then try the ER or a different pediatrician. No pediatrician should dismiss this UNLESS they are able to tell you why the baby has the cough and when it will end. Do not allow anyone to dismiss your concern.
You have to ensure that there is nothing environmentally causing the prolonging cough. Infants are to susceptible to things in the air (dust, pollen, allergens, cleaning products in that linger in the air i.e. - Lysol, air fresheners, etc.) that can cause bronchial irritation. RSV is another thing to be on the look out for and certainly the baby should be frequently monitored to make sure that he/she is not developing any type of wheezing (asthma). A cough even in an adult should not last for weeks at a time unless there is something going on or they are coming out of something. The question is what? Best of luck. Hope this helps.
