Could it be a baby kicking, or am I just losing it?

My son was born in December of 08 and I have an IUD and take monthly pregnancy tests since I no longer get my period. I took one last week at it was negative. Does anyone still get the feeling like a baby is kicking you? I have never heard of anyone still feeling it almost two years after the baby... is it just like muscle contractions? It's down where a baby would be and I have gotten so concerned I have seen my OB and she has done internal sono's and proven I am not pregnant. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and knows what it is.

LOL! Try being 66 with the youngest 32 and the oldest 42 and STILL having the mysterious little wonderful flutterings! It just reminds me of my wonderful pregnancies and my wonderful children. Just a little reminder from God for His miracles in my life.

I had phantom kicks after my bub was born by c-section (I couldn't feel my legs yet so I knew it was just my mind then) & a few times since (mostly after my last miscarriage which had to be removed by D&C). I think part of the mind 'forgets' that it's not pregnant anymore & just remembers what it was like & my hormones were up the creek a little for a couple of months & the muscles are just going along with it...
That said, if it continues go & see your Doc just to get the all clear so you can relax about it

I had that too (before I got pregnant again) ... at first I thought I was going insane and asked my mom and she said she still feels it from time to time and my sister is 10 yrs old. A friend who was pregnant at the same time I was with my first son (who will be 2 in Dec.) also still feels it. I think it's just muscle spasms but I've never actually asked my OB about it. You aren't alone though :)

I haven't been pregnant for almost six years and I still get that phantom kick feeling. It doesn't even feel like muscle spasms. Don't know what it is, but I know what you're talking about.

My youngest is 8 years old and I still occasionally get that feeling. You're not crazy. Having a baby changes your geometry, especially if you have more than one. and I wouldn't be surprised if you were feeling interference from the IUD or, like me, just little muscle spasms.

It just occurred to m e that you may want to learn more about an IUD. The way it works is to disrupt a fertilized egg (zygote) from attaching to the lining of the uterus. So the cramps could be due to the fact that the uterus is trying to expell the IUD (in some minor way) or similar. But look up more information about it or ask you doctor. Cramps are not unusual with IUDs.

I have 3 kids and have never experienced this-so to the lady who is pregnant and said she could expect this- I don't know if you actually will. At least if you do, you know lots of women "do" experience this though and you won't be scared! I honestly have never heard of it before now. Thanks COM's!

i was bf'ing til my son was 15months and i didnt get my period until 3 weeks after i stop anyhow bout 1-2 weeks after my period i felt these 'kicks' my doc said it could just be me ovulating combined with muscle twitches, now a few months down the track i still feel them after a period, but i would not be too concerned about it if ur OB isn't

My best friend and I have chatted about this before as well. My daughter is a year and a half now and I feel "kicking" in my tummy :) I know I am not pregnant, just muscle spasms. I loved being pregnant so I kinda like them :)

I am 66 years old and I STILL have that sensation. I suppose it is just a little muscle twitching. Feels JUST like the first little flutterings of a baby. But I may have had those before I ever got pregnant for years and just paid no mind to it because it didn't relate to anything I'd ever experienced. After the first real thing.....I guess it was so wonderful I just never forgot it. Now I still love that feeling at my older age. Will I ever forget that feeling? I doubt it very seriously. Will it always remind me of my first born's first flutters all the way to my fourth born's flutters? Probably so. Pregnancy was the most wonderful time of my life, just shy of holding my newborns for the rest of their life!

Yup - my "baby" is almost 18 months and I still get this sometimes. I just chalked it up to bowel spasms. Guess I'm not the only one.

I have felt phantom kicks and this is 12 weeks after my son was born via C section. I don't know how long people normally would get them. But it's possible that's what it is is weird after having a baby inside you for so long and growing so close to it and then suddenly it's not there you still feel like it is. I've also heard of the body thinking it is pregnant even when you're not. People lactate even weird but it happens

im so glad to read that so many people suffer from this. I had a little bit after my son was born but i WAS pregnant again by the time he was 6months old, my daughter is now 10weeks old and ive been getting them alot lately and was starting to worry as id had a bit of nausea a few weeks ago but had negative pregnancy tests. I think it must just be muscle spasms

Just an FYI. I never had these until I turned 53! My youngest is 20, and I had a complete hysterectomy over 15 years ago. Ours bodies just do a lot of changing from the first moment we get pregnant. This affects muscles and nerves. Aren't women so lucky to get to go through all these fun changes!!!

Oh yes! I get it still. I have gotten used to it. It was scary at first cause my husband had just got his Vasectomy and we were afraid we didnt wait long enough but I went to the doc and everything was good. He said it is normal. Its the cervix still positioning its self and it can have spasms from time to time which is normal. I thought I was crazy but I am relieved now that I found out and now that I know I am not the only one...lol

My daughter was born november of 07, and I got an IUD just after, and i have also felt what feels like babys kicking. I never really thought it could be related, and I know im not preggo. Im pretty sure it was just weird muscle twitches.. Im assuming i had them before I had my daughter as well, just didnt have any experience to relate it to what a baby kicking feels like.

I do get those sometimes especially when I'm resting. They scared me at first but after months and months of nothing no positive pregnancy i figured my body was just readjusting to not being pregnant. It does lessen over time i found out.

I have had it for years. There is nothing funny about it. One question, a personal one.... are you constipated? The kicking feeling is often associated with peristaltic movement of the colon and feel just like a baby kicking. I have had it so bad that I could see my tummy move like in late pregnancy. Good luck?

Yes! My son is almost a year old and I still feel phantom kicks. Sometimes I think i might be just gas and the only reason i pay attention is because it feels so much like kicking. Other times I can tell that they are just muscle spasms.

Jup- Told my OB GYN and he looked at me like I had two heads...one must have a uterus to understand the weird sensation...stop taking pregnancy tests...it's just mother nature playing strange tricks on us. :) oh and btw thanks for making me feel less weird about it.

Actually, I have. My daughter is 15 months, and I still sometimes feel a fluttering in my abdomen or like one of my organs is spasming. But I'm not pregnant. I'm not sure what it's from!

I Asked my doula friend and this is what she said....
her name is melissa.
yah, phantom baby movements is super common. It could be lots of things, gas, internal muscle spasms, digestion, the returning of organs to their proper place after the great expansion of pregnancy. The way you know it's not fetal movement is because the sensation doesn't get stronger as the weeks go on. I had these the most after my first baby, not so much after the other two but it does make you go "uh, what was that?" sometimes lol.

I feel those to. I think for me it is because I have had three C-Sections and the muscles in that area are constontly twitching. As long as your OB isnt concerned I wouldnt worry about it.
