Hi Katrina, it took us five months of trying. For my first it, I literally got pregnant after one try. Then for my second after four months of following the ovulation calendar and no pregnancy, I just followed the signs my body was giving me and the following month success. My cycles where extremely irregular after I stopped breastfeeding, one month 20 days between periods another month 36 days.... My doc was really surprised and said that I was lucky that I got pregnant that quickly given what was going on. I thought at the time that five months was an eternity, sure feels like it when you are ready for something and it isn't happening. That said I had a friend who tried for 2 years before conceiving, neither her nor her partner had fertility issues, just took a while to kick in.

Hi Katrina. It can take a long time after having a child for your body's cycles to return to normal again making it much more difficult to get pregnant. This can be delayed by things like breastfeeding. I found it so easy getting pregnant the first time around but for my second we tried for several months before success. Have your doctor check your thyroid gland levels, could be that the first pregnancy affected things, making it harder for you to get and stay pregnant. If this is the issue, then medication can regulate your hormones and make conceiving easier for you. If it isn't then your body probably just needs more time to even out. The fact that you have now been pregnant twice probably precludes fertility as an issue. Also if you are following common advice that you are most fertile 14 days after the beginning of your last period. Stop. listen to your body and (not to be too gross) keep a close eye on your secretions, they will change when you are about to ovulate. Remember that you can ovulate at any point in your cycle and not just at the 14 day mark, so having sex twice a week every week will help augment your chances of conception. The theory that having sex every day is a better method is also flawed because the male partner also needs to have time to produce more sperm. Best of luck to you and your man.
