My son ( 12 weeks old) wakes up when I try to put him down in his crib at nights. He hates to be swaddled and so I end up co sleeping but he wakes up in the middle the night tossing and turning. He doesn't wake up fully but he keeps me awake and I there looking at him trying to figure out what is wrong with him. I end up breastfeeding him to clam him down. However, I read that practice could lead to me creating a bad habit of him waking up to feed in the night versus falling right back to sleep and hence sleeping longer and eventually through the nights. I am back at work..... feel so tired.

Thanks Jodi. I don't have an issue breastfeeding him in the nights. I am concerned that after he is fed, when I try to put him in crib he wakes up and I have to start soothing him again for another hour or two before he falls back to sleep. Therefore out of fear that he will wake up again I keep him in bed with me. However with his constant tossing and turning I don't get much sleep plus I am fearful that I may hurt him while we co-sleep ( despite taking the precautions) so I constantly wake up to check on him

It is normal for a baby to wake at night and feed. Your baby is only 12 weeks old - he needs to breastfeed regularly. Firstly, it helps with the build up of your breastmilk supply to meet his growing needs, and secondly, they only have little tummies, so they need to eat regularly to prevent them from being hungry. He's too young for this to be a bad habit.
