When is the best time to go from the crib to a toddler bed?

I moved my daughter at 16 months, a month after she was potty trained. She wasn't climbing out at all, but I wanted the huge crib out and I also asked her if she wanted a big girl bed and she said yes. She has been happily settled in her toddler bed for 6 months now.

I agree with the other 2 ladies. My daughter is 27 months and she is still in her cot/crib. Sje isn't even starting to look at climbing out so she will be in there until I know that she will stay in bed.

Her cot turns into a toddler bed so at least it won't be a big change for her when we do change it over.

I agree, when they start to crawl out, whatever age that might be. My son is 2.5 and we're just switching him now for two reasons: 1- he's started to climb like a monkey 2- we're having a baby in October and want him to get settled in his new bed before the baby starts using "his" crib.

When they start trying to climb out of the crib, or at least that is when I switched my daughter. When she started trying to climb out of her crib I switched to the toddler bed and bought a guard rail at Wal-Mart to keep her from falling. I also threw several pillows on the floor right next to the bed just in case she did fall out, she was a little over a year when I switched her I think.
