Babies have NO other form of communication. The ONLY way they can communicate before they begin talking and learn how to form words and requests is to cry.
It is your job as the mother/caregiver to learn to interpret that cry. They are different for different needs. If you've tried feeding, changing, made sure that baby is not too hot or cold, not conjested or in distress physically, then perhaps baby just wants closeness.
