I don't know what to do I can not get my baby to calm down and stop crying. this has been going on for three hours I've fed her changed her gave her some gas relief since she had gas thought it could be a belly ache tried her swing with lullabies and heart beat sounds and vibration no change tried patting her back AND holding her and still nothing has helped I dont know how to help her or what to do

If your baby's crying "just doesn't sound right," like she's in pain, trust your instincts and call or see a doctor. If she's just being fussy, and you've done everything you can think of to soothe her, then she may just need to cry. Remember two things... it's not personal (she's not doing it to get on your nerves or because you've done something wrong), and you're still helping your baby even if she's still crying.

Sometimes, babies get intestinal woes (beyond gas) that make them cry for extended periods of time. Try giving her some greek yogurt (a low sugar, high probiotic variety) which may help get her digestion back in good shape. If you've been giving her cow's milk or other dairy, she could be developing an allergy, and you might try cutting out the dairy for a couple weeks and see if that helps reduce the crying. Some moms have used "gripe water" with some success, but it doesn't help in many cases. If your otherwise healthy baby is younger than 5 months old and cries for more than three hours in a row on three or more days a week for at least three weeks (yes, that's a lot of crying), then it's probably colic.
