Crying when going to daycare

My son is 22 months old and everytime I drop him off at daycare, he cries, and I mean CRY. Sometimes I will be turning onto the street and he starts to cry. He stops crying as soon as I leave but I feel bad because I don't want my daycare to think that it is because of them. My son doesn't cry when I drop him off with his grandparents, just at daycare. I recently switched daycares and he did the same at the last one. I think his daycare thinks that he will eventually stop but i don't think he will. Has anyone had this problem??

Thanks everyone! I'm just worried that he is never going to stop doing it. He didn't stop at his other daycare and he was there for about 4 months. There would be the occasional day that he wouldn't cry but that was it. I don't know if its because he didn't like it there or what. I know he does well when I leave but I just hate that he is crying when I say good bye. I can't get a good goodbye from him and I can barely even talk to the daycare because he is loud. I hope this stops soon. Unfortunately I can't stick around for a bit at the daycare because I have to go to work right after and I already have to drop him off early enough.

When my son was at his old daycare he cryed when i dropped him off. And cryed for a good 15-20 mins after. When I switched daycares last June he did the same thing. It took him acouple of weeks to stop the crying fites. After being at the new daycare for a couple of months or more he stopped crying and really started to like it. He loves his daycare now. He is a totally differant child at this daycare to his old daycare. Got to remember these are all new people and your son is at the point when he doesnt want mommy to leave him. But trust me things will get better.

Kimberly is correct I have worked in daycare for the last 15 yrs. It is 100% normal and they are quite used to it.

This is absolutely normal! I've worked in childcare for years, trust me, the daycare staff don't think he's crying because of them. It's what some kids do. Some kids are happy to go off and play without mom, some kids cry for a few minutes and then are happy to go off to play, and some kids cry the entire time they're there. I agree with Patricia, though, The nurseries I worked at had a settling in period where mom would stay the first day for an hour and then take bubs home, then the second day you'd come for 30 minutes and then leave the room and see how bubs did, and so on just leaving him longer and longer each time. Then by the time you were ready to start him at daycare he'd be used to it and know that mom was here and we played! At the end of the day it depends on the child, but he WILL get over it. One day you'll drop him off and he wont even say bye!

Yes, I would take my 30 months son to the nursery and he will cry a lot ... one day I waited behind the door and after 1 or 2 minutes he was fine. You have to kepp taking him or he 's going to realise that is tears are stronger than you. Why dont you stay there with him for about 30min and then go? Next time maybe a litlle less and so and so ... until he is fine.Good luck
