Daddy traveling

I work part-time and work only 2 days a week. My mother watches my son when I work. My husband just took a new job where he is traveling more. Otherwise, he works from home. My son (3 1/2) is having trouble when daddy travels. His behavior and personality changes when daddy is gone. We try to explain to him just a day or so in advance that daddy will be gone for x # of days and that he will have that many sleeps (at night) before daddy comes home. We try to FaceTime as much as possible. Any other suggestions to make this easier on him and me? Thanks!

Hi! How are things going? Any better? You could also try giving your son a small picture album or wallet with pictures in it. That way he can go to that and have a visual when he is missing his daddy. Before your husband leaves next time, you could have him video tape himself reading a book, singing a song, or just being silly, so that your son would have that to play while your husband is gone. Your husband could even do that while he is gone and just send it to you for you to play for your son. Continued prayers for you!

Do you think crossing off the day on the calendar will help him?
It's a hard age because they really don't understand how long a day/week is. To them a week is like a year.
Keep up the contact as much as you can and he will get used to it.

Hi! It can be really hard on little ones (and the mama lol) when the daddy is away. I know I hate it when my husband is away on business. It sounds like you are doing a great job keeping connected and being aware of your son’s feelings. I think staying consistent will help. In time, your son will get use to your husband being gone for stretches of time. Maybe when your son is sad you could draw pictures or write letters to your husband. Praying for you!
