Hi, it is postpartum depression or PPD. How long ago did she give birth?

You can get your son health insurance without her help. You can usually buy insurance online from your home if you are purchasing private insurance. If she is working and you want to add the child to her health insurance policy through her job, you should be able to call them (there is a number on the back of her card) and she can give them permission to speak to you on her behalf to add the child. If you need to use a social assistance program like Medicaid, it works differently in every state. Some states allow you to submit everything online, others require you to sign up in person. Can't help you much there.

PPD can be very serious, your wife needs to get professional help if she is so depressed she will not leave the house. It is a chemical imbalance in her hormones--she will not be able to get over it by just willing herself to do better. Get her to a doctor--you can bring your new baby, they won't mind because they know how serious PPD can get, and how difficult it can be for both the new mom AND the new dad. You can take her to her OBGYN or to her primary care physician--whomever she is more comfortable with.
