Anyone experience this for a long period of time? It's been several weeks now of on and off this kind of stool. I keep thinking is related to teething. He still seams good with eating and everything else.

Spinach, lettuce, broccoli or peas can cause a baby or toddler to have dark green bowel movements. Since it's been coming and going it may be his diet. Our kids have also had stools that were nearly black from eating a lot of blueberries. Food dyes can do it too.

There are some scary things that cause black bowel movements - like excessive iron or internal bleeding. I don't think either of those cause dark green though, and I know that with internal bleeding the bowel movement is also tarry and super smelly.

Just got the call from the doctors after getting the stool tested and is negative for blood. This can be related to teething symptoms as well. And is not happening every time he does a BM. I feel at ease now. Thank you all for your time and advise.

The internal bleeding would cause black stool that looks like coffee grounds unless fresh bleeding then there would be actual blood. The stool would not be tart but would have distinct odor. Know this from years as Cna
