Ok so my 9 yr old daughter doesn't like any sort of board, coloring, reading games , crafts etc, no matter how hard I try. Like I said in another post all she does is play w/ these expensive baby dolls inwhich I collect. Any advice anyone??

Actually we did that last time she was here (shared custody) and she played battleship w/ the dolls, I could tell she wasn't as interested as if we had played w/ just the dolls alone but at least she did it. TY for the great advice! :D

Hi Carrie,

Interesting challenge!

I would invite her to do things with YOU and the baby dolls at the same time. In other words, whenever you do crafts or play boardgames or do coloring or reading, find a creative way to include the dolls. Ask her if she can think of ways to include the dolls in the other activities.

For example, when reading ask her what book her doll wants to read. Tell her clearly it is time to read, but be open to including the dolls in the activity. The same with coloring, playing games, crafting, doing puzzles, etc.

All children go through phases like this and if you do this, while continually exposing her to other interests, the phase will likely pass without notice when something else much more interesting peaks her curiosity.

If your concern is that the expensive dolls will get damaged, then make sure you set clear rules around how she is allowed to play with them and then gently, but consistently enforce those rules.

Good luck!
