my daughter is 8 1/2 months and for the past couples she has been screaming so bad when she poops. she squeezes and pushes as hard as she can but it seems like it hurts her. Its hard for her to go sometimes and she will go maybe once every couples days if not sooner. What do i do? Pediatrician says some juice and some water but she won't even drink it. Help!

Thanks guys! its been very helpfulll!! im kind of a young mom so im still trying to get the hang of it. it must be because shes on solids and shes been eating cereal and bananas a lot thanks guys!

Is she a breast milk baby or a formula baby? If she's drinking formula you may need to switch to a low iron formula. If she is eating solids you may want to avoid cereals, bananas, and any iron rich foods until her constipation is gone.

It's probably because she is constipated (which means her poop is not moist enough and is difficult and painful for her to pass), that's why your doctor recommended the water and fruit juice. I am suggesting that if she won't DRINK that, then fruit is the next best thing.

Does she eat fruit? Fruit is a great source of insoluble fibre, so it may help get her going if she won't drink water. Keep offering her water too, dehydration can result in constipation. The best fruits include apricots, pineapple, pears, peaches, figs, prunes.
