My 16 year old daughter has a boyfriend and I feel it's not right. How should I handle this?

You need to be the parent not the friend. Being a friend rather than a parent gives the kids the wrong idea about how parents want them to learn things. If she thinks you are more a friend than a parent, she is going to think she can do much of anything. You need to set rules and stick to them.

Maybe am being too possessive as she happens to be my only child but how do I deal with the situation. I found out as I was going through her texts. She willingly handed her phone to me when I had asked for it. I had become suspicious at some point, politely confronted her but she denied & I trusted her. We are close friends & had promised that we don't keep secrets from each other. I have not confronted her about the texts & need advice

Do you feel she is too young to have a boyfriend (in many cultures, 16 is considered acceptable), or is it that you don't approve of this particular boy?
