Today was my LO first day of daycare. I had him go for half the day to ease myself into being away from him. Going back to work on Wednesday. Yikes. Yeah I knew I would miss him but I didn't realize just how sad I would be, a puddle!! Anyway when I show up my boy is crying very hard sitting in a swing...all alone. It took me a second to even find him. The staff tells me he just started crying and they were warming a bottle for him. Ok so is my timing just bad or should I be as horrified as I am? This daycare comes highly recommended by friends, have heard great things and hubs and I love the place...well until today's event. Thoughts? Support?

Thanks Kelly! They did just get all the cameras installed and are being watched at the front end but not parent accessible just yet. Soon they tell me.

I dropped him off today for round two, half day and then back to work tomorrow for a full day. I like your idea of checking in on him unannounced. It's so tough as he is only 3 months and can't tell me how it went. But I think I will know. I am hopeful that it was just a one time thing. It's hard enough having to go back to work I don't want to be worrying if he is being taken care of properly too!

Because it was only one event, I wouldn't be too worried, but I would check in unannounced on a regular basis to make sure their care is up to your standards. Stop by on your lunch break and vary the time you come to pick him up for the first few weeks.

Most daycares in my area have cam systems in place that stream a live feed to a controlled access website. They give you the website, and you can log in with your username & password and "look in" on your baby. I am not sure I would be comfortable leaving my son in a place that didn't have cameras that I could access at will.
